This comes amid ongoing tensions and unresolved negotiations between Washington and Tehran. During a speech in New York on Friday, Trump hinted at this potential move, asserting that it would follow a US victory over Iran. He further claimed that the US already maintains effective control over the crucial maritime passage through a blockade.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical artery for global energy supplies, as it facilitates the transport of about 20% of the world’s seaborne oil. Positioned between Iran and Oman, the strait has been largely inaccessible since the US, alongside Israel, initiated military actions against Iran.
