The White House has indicated that the talks, lasting over three hours, centered on substantive strategies for advancing towards a potential settlement. Following these discussions, Witkoff and Kushner were scheduled to proceed to Kyiv for a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Kremlin representatives noted that various ideas for a potential resolution were explored during the talks, yet they did not suggest any significant breakthrough was achieved. President Putin reiterated Russia’s stance that the fundamental issues driving the conflict must be addressed and asserted that Russia was making battlefield advancements. Concurrently, President Zelenskyy observed that Russian assaults on Kyiv and the Boryspil international airport seemed to coincide with the US negotiators’ arrival. He cautioned that Ukraine would modify its operations in reaction to Russia’s use of its airspace for military strikes.
The US has been striving to reignite peace negotiations after previous efforts failed to yield a resolution.
