In a move aimed at easing healthcare costs for seniors, President Donald Trump has announced a one-time payment of $90 for over 20 million Medicare recipients. This initiative is designed to help cover premium expenses for eligible Medicare Part B beneficiaries residing in the United States.
The payments, which will be distributed in October, are set to be delivered either through direct deposit or by check, according to the White House. The funding for this initiative will be sourced from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a reserve established to enhance Medicare operations and provider payments.
However, the $90 payment will not be available to all Medicare recipients. Seniors who are already receiving premium assistance through Medicaid or those who pay income-adjusted premiums are not eligible for this benefit. Additionally, individuals enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans will also be excluded from receiving the payment.
Medicare Part B is known for covering services such as doctor visits, ambulance services, and laboratory tests, with premiums that can vary based on income. This announcement comes as Trump seeks to address healthcare and affordability concerns ahead of the upcoming midterm elections on November 3.
